Corten steel, also known as weathering steel, is a type of steel alloy that develops a protective layer of rust when exposed to atmospheric conditions. Corten steel can be bent, folded, laser-cut and punched to form shapes that are limited only to your imagination. When the corten is first received onsite, if they have just been to the laser-cutters for instance, it's usually a clean gunmetal blue. As the material weathers and is exposed to the elements it rusts off to what is known more commonly as a 'corten' finish.
